An Entrepreneur's Life & Personal Brand

The first TIA Weekend paints a very realistic picture of the highs and lows in the life of an entrepreneur; a veritable roller coaster. With testimonials from the alumni mentors, we highlight failures, successes, and what it really takes to be an entrepreneur. Personal brand is the single most important ingredient to success for an entrepreneur. It includes; delivering on commitments, identifying strengths and weaknesses, problem solving, treating failures as lessons learned, establishing trust, and being adaptable and resilient, etc. Through dedicated introspection, hard work and tolerance for critique, you CAN shape and improve your personal brand and thereby increase your odds of success.

Saturday, September 24th 11:00am - 12:00pm
Presenting Your Venture

This TIA Weekend considers the importance of “clarity of message” and offers clear advice on the building blocks of a convincing pitch/presentation. We discuss Problem / User / Solution / Benefit, “knowing your audience”, and also stress having a clear “ask” when meeting with decision-makers who can influence your chances of winning.

Saturday, November 5th 11:00am - 12:00pm
Building a Team

This TIA Weekend discusses the importance of building great teams, delegating, working with friends and family, and hiring. Mentor testimonials provide fascinating perspectives into the art (not science) of creating winning teams as well as recommendations on how to avoid pitfalls that will slow or derail your progress. Expectation management, clarity of deliverables, interview guides, job specifications and “trusting your instincts” are some of the topics that make this a lively workshop.

Saturday, December 3rd 11:00am - 12:00pm
Optimizing your Venture

This TIA Weekend focuses on "knowing" vs. "thinking" you have a good idea.  We review quantitative and qualitative research, knowing your customer/user, developing minimum viable products, relevance / differentiation, the elements of a convincing one-pager, and general intelligence gathering through being good listeners.

Saturday, January 28, 2017 11:00am - 12:00pm
Tech101 for Non-tech Cofounders; Recruiting, Managing, & Executing with Technical Talent

This TIA weekend focuses on the technical end of start-ups. First up - determining your needs by defining problems and solutions. Next, do you really need a developer or can you use one of the many great products readily available to create a minimum viable product? If you do determine you have more advanced needs, we'll cover how to recruit, screen, and hire technical talent. Finally, getting past the goal line - how to launch your finished product or service.

Saturday, February 25th, 2017 11:00am - 12:00pm
The Ask and Getting Pitch Ready

This TIA weekends covers the essential ingredients that go into a great and convincing pitch.  We cover what must be included in a pitch and discuss why these topics need to be covered when presenting your venture; from the perspective of investors, partners, customers, etc.  We also discuss the “art of asking”, and illustrate how knowing how to “make the ask” is central to success for any entrepreneur...or person.  During the lesson we also revisit elements of how to present from the second workshop, “Presenting”.

Saturday, March 25, 2017 11:00am - 12:00pm
Final Thoughts and Demo-Day Pitch Prep

This TIA Weekend provides a recap of all concepts and topics covered over the course of the year. We hear thought-provoking testimonials from the student entrepreneurs about what they learned and suffered through, as well as what they didn’t expect and what successes they feel best about. Additionally, much of this weekend is dedicated to preparing for the eWeekend Demo Day. Student Entrepreneurs will be rehearsing their pitches, discussing plans for their “booths”, and developing clear “asks” and “needs”.

Entrepreneur Weekend 2017 (SharkTank & DemoDay)
